Retreats
There are various forms of retreat available within our spiritual community:
- large group
- small group
- individual silent retreat - in a group context with a guide who may be leading several people simultaneously; or
- a personal retreat.
Each type of retreat has its place. Please check the Schedule for dates and locations of retreats and healing workshops planned for the year.
Individual Silent Retreat - Summer Program
The Summer Retreat Program is an important focus of the Sufi Healing Order - North America. Quiet locations near the Abode, in the Berkshire Mountains in upper New York state are chosen for these group retreats. Although conducted in a group setting, there is sufficient flexibility to cater for individual needs and requirements. Participants gather together in the morning and evening for guided meditation, attunement and practices. Silence is encouraged throughout the retreat except when meeting with Retreat Guides or Mentors.
Five, seven and ten day retreats will be held at the Shaker Farm Mill Inn: 3rd-17th August 2008.

A personal retreat is one where a guide leads only one retreatant at a time offering enhanced access to what is being birthed in that moment in the discussion between the Divine and the retreatant, what is necessary for spiritual development -- through careful attention, presence, orientation and facilitation. These retreats are the most guide-intensive. This approach builds a strong foundation and capacity through gaining tools to integrate the fruits of mystical experience into every day life. Each retreatant is offered a deep, clear, and far-reaching process, furthering spiritual education, development, and experience. Usually, at least one hour of time with the retreat guide is part of each person’s daily retreat process.
Retreats at the Abode
The Sufi Healing Order maintains three self-contained retreat cabins by a beautiful mountain stream for those seeking a more private and natural environment during retreat. A variety of other accommodation options are available at the Abode of the Message. A number of trained Retreat Guides reside locally and are available to facilitate healing, esoteric and alchemical retreats.
