Part 1

"We invoke the one whose body is the cosmos of the galaxies and our own bodies, Whose mind courses through our thinking, and Whose ecstasy arouses our acts of glorification, Whose personality is customized as our personalities, Whose presence is always there, Whose consciousness is focalized as our consciousness, and whose reality is beyond our reach." - Pir Vilayat (at the beginning of his booklet on Healing)

Toward the One, the Perfection of Love, Harmony and Beauty, the Only Being, united with all the Illuminated Souls, who form the Embodiment of the Master, the Spirit of Guidance.

The following are some of teachings of Pir Vilayat at the Alps Camp, 2001:

You cannot help someone if you are in your ordinary consciousness. The challenge is to awaken dormant faculties within yourself. One must use intuition and creativity.

Start with the physical faculties by awakening the cells of the body. We are usually unaware of the cells, the organs of the body, and of the chakras. As we become aware of them (are present to them) that very awareness enhances their activity many-fold.

The amount of pollution increases over time, lowering resistance to bacteria, etc. One must be aware of how let go of or resorb the pollution.

Practices: Think of your lymphatic system. The lower chakras have the ability to release pollution. Draw fresh energy in through the muladara (base of spine) chakra as you breath in. Be certain this is fresh energy. Allow the energy to transmute (we are not working with kundalini here) as it rises up the spine. Be aware of the light at the top. As you breath out allow this to wash down through your body releasing pollution, feeling it eliminate itself from the body.

Breath in magnetism to the body. As you hold your breath a comfortable amount of time, feel the magnetism charge the cells, the organs, the systems, etc, making them vibrate with new energy and magnetism. Breath out and feel old pollution leave as you are re-energized.

Breath in light to the cells of your body. Include the skin, organs, systems (circulatory, digestive, hormonal etc), the connective tissue - everything. As you hold your breath a comfortable amount of time feel that light sparkle in the body - in the cells. Breath out and feel yourself transformed.

"You can only heal others if you are able to heal yourself." - Pir Vilayat

Part 2

"We invoke the one whose body is the cosmos of the galaxies and our own bodies, Whose mind courses through our thinking, and Whose ecstasy arouses our acts of glorification, Whose personality is customized as our personalities, Whose presence is always there, Whose consciousness is focalized as our consciousness, and whose reality is beyond our reach." - Pir Vilayat (at the beginning of his booklet on Healing)

In - - Out

"Learn to heal at all levels, not just physical and magnetic." - Pir Vilayat

There is another energy that Dr. David Bohm's experiments explored. He called it the scalar level. When two people pull equally on something it builds an enormous amount of energy and yet nothing happens.moves. The Sufis call this enormous potential energy Kemal. This potential can be accessed through the solar plexus and radiates out the heart. This energy is more impersonal than magnetism and goes with an emotional feeling. What makes one dive into the depth is compassion - to the Sufis 'Rahim', and in the heart is a feeling of generosity, of magnanimity - to the Sufis 'Rahman' where one has room in ones heart for all.

Practice: Breath in feeling compassion for all beings, opening yourself to the Divine potential. Breath out radiating from your heart. What you radiate is not magnetism, but something else.

"It is the joy of the whole Universe that one experiences in ones body" - Pir Vilayat

"Ultimately it is God that every lover loves in every beloved" - Ibn 'Arabi

"The force of love is the ultimate healing force. It expresses itself in magnanimity and compassion." - Pir Vilayat

Part 3

Invocation of Healing Beings
"Let us begin in the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful, the Restorer of all things to their pristine glory, the Bestower of the all-sufficient power of healing. Let us invoke the Divine Spirit, the Quickener of Life. Let us invoke the Archangel Raphael and all the angelic hosts occupied with the healing ministry. Let us invoke the Messiah, the Beloved's response to the suffering cry of the planet. Let us invoke all theose who have come to the succor of humanity in times of distress; who have brought greater life, greater light, greater love, to replace mankinds suffering, darkness and despair. Let us invoke Osiris, Imhotahep, Hermes, Ascelepius, Hippocrates, Orpheus, Pythagoras, Mahadeva Shiva, the Lord Buddha, the Quan Yin, the Lord Zarathustra, the Mother Mary, Jesus Christ, St. Francis, Avicenna, Paracelsus, St. Germain, and, of course, let us invoke the presence of our Murshid, who entrusts this work into our care, the Inayat, Hazrat Inayat Khan. Let us invoke all others, known and unknown, who have held aloft the light of truth amidst the darkness of human ignorance." - Himayat

Toward the One, the Perfection of Love, Harmony and Beauty, the Only Being, united with all the Illuminated Souls, who form the Embodiment of the Master, the Spirit of Guidance.

"There is one thing that produces self control, self discipline, kindness, consideration. It develops an echo where peace, happiness, light or form is produced as soon as one begins to commune with oneself. In this place wonderworkings loose their interest because all of life becomes a phenomena of wonder. It begins by living in communion with oneself, and it is in the innermost self where the life of God is to be found." Inayat Khan calls this repose. (Volume 4)

Practice: (Review) "To do repose, one must relax the body, mind and feeling." - Inayat Khan

Body - do physical activity (walk, run, bike, etc.) or deep relaxation (tighten each part of the body starting with the toes, make tighter and tighter - then relax. Do with all body parts including face and scalp) or both.
"When one relaxes ones body, ones circulation and pulsation, using thought, will and breath, then one gets repose of greater than ten days rest." - Inayat Khan

Mind - use concentration. Pick an object that is pleasant. Use a flower or a shape (triangle, etc). Concentrate on it for 30 seconds with the eyes open, then 30 seconds with the eyes closed. Each day increase the time. Inayat Khan suggests that one should eventually be able to do this practice for a total of 30 minutes. The idea is to hold ones mind.concentration steady until you feel your concentration beginning to waver - then go a little more (This is like yoga or exercise. For maximum effect you add a gentle stretch at the end of the exercise rather than pushing hard.)
"Make the mind tired with concentration. Then the mind relaxes naturally and gains all power." - Inayat Khan

Feeling - do by feeling deeply. Use music. Choose music by Bach, Mozart, or another, that gives you a feeling of relaxation, expansiveness, ecstasy, and/or freedom.
"The reaction to music produces relaxation, removes blockages and congestion, and inspiration, power, joy and exultation will come." - Inayat Khan

Part 4

God is Love, God is the one who Loves, God is the process of Loving God is Love, God is Lover, God is Beloved

Toward the One, the Perfection of Love, Harmony and Beauty, the Only Being, united with all the Illuminated Souls, who form the Embodiment of the Master, the Spirit of Guidance.

The Heart - Love

This is a teaching from Pir Zia, given during the Labor Day retreat last summer:

"The heart is the center of ultimate integration, the bridge between phenomena and the real, between earth and heaven. What is essential is the quality of love. Love another person first, then experience divine love. "If you cannot see love in the one in front of you, then where can you see love." - Inayat Khan

Human Love - affection

Jinn Love - admiration

Angelic Love - glorification

Divine Love - love for all indiscriminately

"Love draws one out of oneself." - Pir Zia

"It was out of the love for the possibility of you, that I descended from the solitude of unknowing." - Hadith

"There is no horizon to one's heart." - Pir Zia

Practice: Breath In - discover oneself as the object of the Divine Love.
Breath Out - discover the love with which one has been invested, and project it out into the Universe

 Part 5

NAYAZ

Beloved Lord, Almighty God,
Through the rays of the sun,
Through the waves of the air,
Through the all-pervading life in space,
Purify and revivify me, and I pray
Heal my Body, Heart and Soul. - Hazrat Inayat Khan

Before doing this class you could do the practices of the preceding classes. Then continue on to this lesson.

"One must train oneself by working with all levels of ones being. To do this one must know what those levels are." - Pir Vilayat

"It is important to work at the level of psychology to heal the body. One cannot work on the body alone." - Pir Vilayat

At the psychological level, when we have difficulty digesting circumstances our identity becomes overstressed - so there is a breakdown in our sense of identity.

The answer is the importance of affirming our identity. The whole teaching of the Sufis is based on affirming your identity - discovering who you are. This discovery begins as you recognize what you like and dislike, desire and discard, and when you respectfully care for your body and its needs. It further unfolds as you awaken to yourself as a being greater than a body, likes and dislikes, as you awaken to the call of your soul. And this discovery continues throughout life as you incorporate a deeper and vaster experience of self into what you mean when you say the word 'I'.

"The mind of God is completed in man." - Pir Vilayat

As with all practices, if the following practice is uncomfortable, do not do it.

Practice:

To begin this practice remember

  1. Always feel you have an anchor to the physical world.
  2. Beware of astral projection. It does not help. It will keep you from your goal.
  3. Imagine a light as bright as you can - brighter than the sun - and look at it - feel this intense light.
  4. Find yourself in a world of light.
  5. Entertain luminous thoughts - let the light permeate resentment, dislike, cantankerousness, provide love, ecstasy, bliss. Allow each thought to be permeated with light until you notice that the thought itself is light..
  6. Keeping that anchor in the physical world, allow the ties with your personality to loosen.
  7. Discover a dimension of yourself you didn't notice before. All forms are somehow connected, a world of light.
  8. Let this experience integrate into your being.

"There is a degree to which we adapt ourselves to the environment, and a degree to which we adapt our environment to our own sense of purpose." - Pir Vilayat

"Here is the secret of healing - the ability of the imagination" - Pir Vilayat

We are awakening consciousness in matter and awakening matter in consciousness. This works on all levels. One must establish a strong connection between ones body and it's ground. One can identify with ones roots, refer back to the root in order to promote new growth.

Practice continued:

Note your current experience. Write down what is new in your being. Write down the things you want to remember, those things that could be a support to you at another time to remind you.
